With Building Products of Canada, Saint-Gobain will be well positioned to better serve Canadian customers, to whom it will bring a broader innovative and sustainable range of solutions.

 

In support of this acquisition, BUILDING PRODUCTS OF CANADA CORP. has an exciting career opportunity for a Process Engineer for the Edmonton Plant, reporting to the Plant Engineer. As a Process Engineer, you will standardize and document processes throughout the three main manufacturing centres at the Edmonton facility. Responsible for tracking all engineering and process improvement activities, including documentation and follow-up. Monitors all spending and collection of details pertaining to process and production improvement projects, and advises on quality, delivery, and cost results for respective projects.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in WCM (World Class Manufacturing) project teams that analyze process variations and identify losses;
  • Creation of assembly / process flow charts for manufacturing activities.
  • Design and develop new process systems, revise existing processes, and develop and coordinate projects that contribute substantially to plant profitability.
  • Creation of Work Instructions for manufacturing activities.
  • Monitors program cost activity to achieve an “in budget” result.
  • Identifies and analyzes inefficiencies in the manufacturing process to ensure early detection and resolution. Suggests preventative steps for correction;
  • Assesses processes with respect to their effectiveness;
  • Monitors modifications and upgrades, and troubleshoots existing processes;
  • Assesses health/safety and environmental impact, for the health and safety of both company staff and the wider community;
  • Provides observations and takes measurements directly; collects and interprets data from the other technical staff and operators involved;
  • Ensures that new and current equipment and processes are in accordance with federal and provincial regulations, (ABSA, AENV, CNSC).

Is this job for you ?

  • Engineering degree in appropriate field; Professional Engineer (Mechanical, Chemical or equivalent).
  • Minimum 4 years' experience as a Process Engineer in a high volume manufacturing environment.
  • Experience of taking at least one project through launch plus at least one year of subsequent production.
  • Lean Manufacturing experience an asset.
  • Proven ability to create and execute project plans that have achieved the identified targets.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to produce succinct reports/presentations to communicate status of assigned projects/tasks.
  • A tenacious personality that will not let an issue be left unresolved.
  • Demonstrated organizational skills with strong oral and written communication abilities.
  • Strong leadership abilities, able to lead effective meetings.
  • Quality Control background including problem solving and root cause analysis.
  • Sound technical background (hands-on) with logical deductive reasoning approach.
  • Interest in developing technical skills through both internal and external training.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities with task prioritization, multi-tasking, use of timelines and time management techniques.
  • Conviction to improve personally and support continuous improvement in the department and company as a whole.
  • Professional/mature demeanor under stressful situations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-starter.
  • Must be able to work with little supervision; must be self-directed.
