Why do we need you ?
The Research Engineer I will support R&D activities within the Organic Grinding Wheels (OGW) Group, which is part of Bonded Abrasives, located at Saint-Gobain Innovation Hub North America in Northboro, MA. This position, Research Engineer I, will report to the Senior Research Engineer II.
In this role, you will be responsible for the below activities:
· Sample testing and characterization
· Data analysis and interpretation
· Preparing summaries and reports for presentation/discussion with stakeholders within and outside of R&D
· Assisting in the preparation and completion of pilot production trials
· Visiting with customers and vendors
· Attending field-testing
· Assisting in the completion of studies developed others
· Independently ideating and executing your own research studies
· Assisting with the maintenance and improvement of lab operations
· Working with integrity, honesty, and in a manner that is safe to yourself and others
The person in this role will provide immediate support to a Top Priority project within OGW; work on this project will benefit both the person in this role (providing hands on training in a variety of tasks/operations/concepts critical to OGW) and the project lead.
The core responsibilities of this position are centered on working safely in the lab and in our production plants, all towards developing and launching products with improved performance, improved sustainability, and/or improved cost.

Education Requirements
· BS/BA in Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Plastics/Polymer Engineering, Materials Science, or other related disciplines
Work Experience Required:
· At least one year of hands-on laboratory experience
· Familiarity with data analysis and statistical tools
· Ability to cultivate and maintain strong interpersonal relationships with team members
· Planning and organizational skills
· Ability to work and collaborate in a cross functional team
· Ability to innovate and solve problems
· Excellent communication skills
· Knowledge of HSE (health, safety & environment)
· The ability to lift up to 50 lbs. (for example, when traveling to visit a customer checked luggage may weigh up to 50 lbs.)
Preferred:
· Industrial internship experience is preferred
· Experience with materials preparation, characterization, and testing is preferred

The role offers exposure to both laboratory innovation and real world production environments, with opportunities to contribute directly to high impact projects.

We believe in the importance of pay transparency in what we offer potential candidates. Provided is the national pay range for this position which is $72,500 to $111,500 per year. However, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.
In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 9% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $79,025 to $121,535. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
