Why do we need you ?

The Building Projects Solutions Manager – SBM (Specialty Building Materials) will play a critical leadership role in driving strategic business growth across targeted Sub-Saharan African markets for Saint-Gobain. This role will be responsible for identifying and evaluating new market opportunities, developing country-specific growth and market entry strategies, and supporting the successful execution of expansion initiatives aligned with the organization’s long-term objectives for the specialty building materials portfolio.

Working across diverse markets and in close collaboration with regional and cross-functional teams, the successful candidate will leverage market intelligence, commercial insight, and operational understanding to enable sustainable growth, strengthen market presence, and unlock new opportunities within the construction and building materials sector across Africa.

Location: The primary location for this position is Midrand, South Africa. However, as this is a regional role, applications are open to candidates who have the legal right to work in any of the Saint-Gobain Africa countries in which the company operates across Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

Key responsibilities:

Opportunity Identification and Analysis

  • Conduct market research to identify new business opportunities across regions and sectors
  • Analyse market dynamics, competitor activity, and customer needs
  • Evaluate the commercial viability of opportunities, including risks and potential returns
  • Translate data and insights into clear business cases

Country Specific Strategy Development 

  • Develop tailored market entry, product portfolio and growth strategies for targeted countries
  • Align strategies with organisational goals, product offerings, and operational capabilities
  • Identify optimal go-to-market approaches based on local market conditions
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to refine and validate strategic plans

Market and Operational Alignment

  • Assess manufacturing capabilities, sourcing options, and supply chain considerations
  • Evaluate availability and capability of local resources and partnerships
  • Analyse project pipelines and industry trends to prioritise opportunities
  • Ensure alignment between business strategy and operational feasibility

Strategy Execution Support

  • Support the implementation of approved strategies across relevant markets
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams (sales, operations, supply chain, finance)
  • Monitor progress against strategic objectives and timelines
  • Identify and address execution challenges and risks

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Engage with regional teams to ensure local market insights are incorporated
  • Support leadership with strategic reporting and recommendations

Is this job for you ?

Minimum requirements:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Commerce, Economics or similar
  • 5–10 years’ relevant experience in business development, commercial strategy, market analysis, or strategic growth roles within multinational or regional organisations with a focus on infrastructure projects
  • Proven experience working across multiple countries or regions within Sub-Saharan Africa, with a strong understanding of diverse market dynamics and business environments
  • Experience within the construction, building materials, manufacturing, industrial, or infrastructure sectors will be highly advantageous
  • Strong commercial and financial acumen, with the ability to assess market opportunities, profitability, risks, and long-term business potential
  • Demonstrated ability to conduct market research, competitor analysis, and business intelligence activities to support strategic decision-making
  • Experience developing and implementing market entry, go-to-market, and growth strategies across different markets
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking capabilities, with the ability to translate insights into actionable business plans
  • Proven ability to manage and influence cross-functional stakeholders across commercial, operational, and leadership teams
  • Strong project coordination and execution capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple strategic initiatives simultaneously
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
  • Fluency in English is essential; proficiency in French will be advantageous due to the regional scope of the role
