Position description

Saint-Gobain's Aerospace facility in Bristol, RI is seeking an experienced Project Engineer.

The role supports the manufacturing of complex compression/injection molded parts and internally produced thermoset composite resins through effective use of project management skills and a strong understanding of customer requirements and expectations. This support will include working with cross functional teams to ensure compliance with all internal, external, and regulatory (AS9100) requirements within the site and play a major role in the contract review processes. The position will assist with scheduling, resourcing, and managing technical activities to ensure project accuracy and quality. The Project Engineer will also support the introduction of new products into manufacturing with a focus on safety, quality, and repeatability.   He/She will rely on experience and judgment to plan and support goals utilizing creativity as well as excellent diagnostic and problem solving skills.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Work closely with customers to define project and product requirements using effective communication to relay those requirements to the team.  Use this information to drive the contract review process.
  • Preparing, scheduling and monitoring assigned engineering projects to drive on time completion including the supporting of implementation of the projects/products into the production environment.
  • Communicating with senior management to report on the status of engineering projects. Creating and reporting on project’s key metrics and data collection.
  • Monitoring the quality control of manufacturing tasks and initiating the necessary corrective actions.
  • Ability to effectively handle multiple activities simultaneously and successfully function in a cross functional manufacturing environment.
  • Manage scope and magnitude of project assignments from a single component to new product introductions.
  • Understanding of working in a regulated environment and interpreting detailed customer specifications.
  • Excellent computer literacy and knowledge of design and visualization software.  
  • Excellent organization, time management, leadership, and decision making skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of applicable codes, policies, standards, and best practices preferred

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree - Engineering or Related Technical Degree required
  • Master's Degree in Engineering or Project Management Preferred 
  • 4+ years’ experience as a Project Engineer in a manufacturing environment required
  • Implementation of SPC or similar systems with experience utilizing statistical process control data sets or other statistical analysis tools to create control charts, CPK adjustments,  and improvement projects within manufacturing environment required.
  • Communications and Team Building skills with a proven record of leading successful projects required.
  • Experience with APQP / PPAP requirements strongly preferred
  • Experience in Aerospace or other regulated environment with working knowledge of the AS9100/ISO9001 methodology strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of TQM techniques/Lean/Six Sigma & World Class Manufacturing methodology preferred
  • 2+ years’ experience in injection/compression molding and post processing of such parts preferred
