Position Description

Set up and operate machines to mix or blend materials, polymers, catalyst, color pigments with close attention to work orders and customer’s specifications. Screen material to remove impurities, and then perform milling operation utilizing all safety rules and procedures at maximum efficiency, with minimum scrap to achieve an acceptable product while following quality guidelines and specifications. 

  • Observe production and monitor equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation.
  • Record operational and production data on specified forms.
  • Transfer materials, supplies, and products between work areas, using moving equipment and hand tools.
  • Examine materials, ingredients, or products visually or with hands, in order to ensure conformance to established standards.
  • Closely follow work orders for every job to ensure compliance to customer specifications and process.
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and determining when and what kind of maintenance is needed.
  • Watch gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly.
  • Mixing/Compound Blending - Produce Master Batches to be used for specific work orders:
    • Accurately measure specified amounts of materials to be added to mixing machinery/equipment.
    • Start machines to mix or blend ingredients; then allow them to mix for specified times.
    • Transfer finished material from bowl to lined buckets and or plastic bags. Properly identify each batch with the required information per procedure.
    • Perform full cleanouts of mixing machine and equipment between different jobs.
    • Submit required number of samples from each batch to QA/QC for testing. Assure each sample is labeled properly 
  • Screening – Removes impurities from mixed material:
    • Load preformed blocks of material into screening machine and run cycle.
    • Monitor material as it feeds through the screen and cut to desired lengths as machine runs.
    • Weigh cut pieces and adjust as necessary to meet weight specifications.
    • Wrap finished pieces in plastic, label each with the correct information and load onto racks.
  • Milling – Works the material through rolling cylinders to mix and transform to sheets:
    • Make slabs representing formulation to be used, identify correctly and submit to QA/QC when complete for testing
    • Weigh the individual materials for the batch size to be milled per the Mill Room Formula sheet.
    • Operator feeds blocks of material through the rolling cylinders and adds the remaining materials and guides it through over and over, cutting and turning it repeatedly as it mills to create final product.
    • Material is cut from mill into thin sheets and placed on racks to be sent to extrusion.
  • Responsible for accurate record keeping as per supervisor / lead person’s direction.
  • Follows and understands GMP’s (Good Manufacturing Practice) and OP.’s (Operating Procedures) as it pertains to their responsibilities. Complete all required paper work correctly.
  • Report all necessary and correct information per operations in real time through software system (Factivity).
  • Troubleshooting - Determining causes of operating errors and deciding what to do about it.
  • Consistently meet production standards and identify when standards cannot be met.
  • Capable and responsible for keeping all work areas and extrusion tooling in good working condition and notifying supervision of any anomalies.
  • Capable and responsible to keep accurate inventory, logs, and work with leadership to solve all inventory discrepancies.
  • Ability to follow work schedules that include operations, covering breaks, cleaning, safety activities, and training.
  • May be required to train personnel.
  • Help out in other departments as needed with appropriate training.
  • Must abide by the Workplace Safety Guidelines and Company Policies, and use all the necessary personal protective equipment required.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • 3rd shift schedule is 11PM-7:30AM
  • The work schedule includes working a minimum of 3 weekend days per 4-week cycle.  The 4-week cycle will consist of working at least 1 full weekend (Saturday & Sunday combined).
  • Opportunity for overtime when available.
  • The compensation package includes a shift and weekend differential

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) is preferred, not required
  • Mathematical and measuring skills
  • 1-3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
  • The ability to read, write and follow verbal and written instructions in the English language
  • The ability to read and understand work orders and product specifications
  • Ability to see defects at close range
  • Control Precision - The ability to quickly and repeatedly adjust the controls of a machine to exact positions to achieve specifications.
  • Finger Dexterity - The ability to make precisely coordinated movements of the fingers of one or both hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble very small objects.
  • Arm-Hand Steadiness - The ability to keep your hand and arm steady while moving your arm or while holding your arm and hand in one position.
  • Manual Dexterity - The ability to quickly move your hand, your hand together with your arm, or your two hands to grasp, manipulate, or assemble objects.
  • Reaction Time - The ability to quickly respond (with the hand, finger, or foot) to a signal (sound, light, picture) when it appears.
  • Ability to work in a respectful way in a collaborative environment. Ability to work as a team to meet goals/KPI’s (Key Performance Indicators).
