Saint-Gobain is seeking an Applications Engineer II for our Merrimack, NH site. The incumbent will provide application engineering expertise, product/project leadership and application expansion management for a full range of Films and Fabrics branded products. In addition to the responsibilities of an application engineer, the role is responsible for proactively developing and executing growth projects for applications that bridge customers within defined industries (i.e. defined set of companies engaged in same activities). This position requires a high degree of technical competency, proactive initiative and a well developed sense of urgency/speed.

Essential Duties include, but are not limited to:
- Working with the commercial team, develop and execute growth projects within a defined industry. Growth initiatives to include defining the application in terms of the (i) customer market and market growth drivers, (ii) most relevant set of competitors, (iii) how customer’s measures value, (iv) the product properties that drive performance, (v) the process technologies that are required to impart the properties required to meet the customers performance metrics.
- Support/Lead product development projects that involve cross functional team from sales, process engineering, and R&D.
- Provide technical support to DSM, CSR, customers both at point of sale and remotely, including guidance on product selection
- Provide product training, including development of training materials and tools for DSM’s; CSR, and customers
- Provide support to resolve customer complaints and product performance issues and solves customer application problems
Bachelors' Degree in a technical discipline, preferably Mechanical Engineering, required; Masters' Degree preferred.
Statistical and data analysis capabilities including experience with Excel, Minitab, and other custom scripting programs (MATLAB, Python, etc.
Professional AutoCAD experience for drawing existing parts and for new product design.
Experience in a broad range of material characterization techniques (SEM, Instron, FTIR, TGA/DSC, surface profilometer, conductivity/dielectric breakdown, GCMS, etc.).
Knowledge of techniques to support experimental design and root cause analysis.
Proven success with competitive product analysis and the product development cycle.
Demonstrated selling skills, strong customer orientation / mindset / focus.
Strong communication skills with the ability to convey customer requirements in terms that link customer in use performance with product characteristics or properties and with bias for communicating in the language of numbers.
Ability to lead cross-functional teams and have the ability to influence others without authority.
Ability to effectively manage changing and conflicting priorities and resolve appropriately, no issue coping with fast changing environment.
Individual must possess a well-developed sense of urgency and personnel optimism, will be driven by data and demonstrate a disciplined and systematic approach to problem solving.
