Position description

The Machine Operator (Laminating) is responsible for the safe, efficient operation of a laminating machine to produce laminated products to various specifications.  Performs and operates job functions with safety, quality and efficiency in mind and in accordance with specific process sheets and operational parameters.  The Laminating Operator has overall responsibility for the quality of the product they are producing and must have excellent attention to detail with regard to the materials visual aspects as well as additional product specifications.

**Hours for this position are Sunday - Thursday - 11:00 pm to 7:00 am**

Essential Functions

Demonstrates safety awareness and safe work practices

  • Comply with Saint-Gobain safety rules, policies and procedures
  • Follow internal environmental safety requirements for handling various raw/finished product/material in work area, as required
  • Ensure personal protective safety equipment is worn and is in good repair, as required
  • Ensure equipment and machinery are in correct and safe working order
  • Safely operate powered and non-powered equipment and tools used in job functions

Safe, efficient operation of laminating machine to include:

  • Primary responsibility on his/her shift is the operation of laminating machine.  Responsibility includes safety, product quality, delivery-to-schedule, costs, and teamwork
  • Machine start-up, shut-down, and turnarounds conducted efficiently and safely
  • Read and follow process sheet, work instructions, quality documents (PQD) and/or procedures to produce product to specification
  • Use various tools to move fabric/film material to/from machine, such as crane, Big Joe, etc.
  • Verify selected material roll to be processed and formulation are correct per the work instruction
  • Install material on appropriate shaft, and place on the pay-off, inflate shaft and splice material to the leader
  • Check materials and/or coating formulation using various calibrated and non-calibrated tools
  • Complete process map, recognize, categorize, document and correct various defect and processing problems
  • Complete visual inspections on material as it is processed through tower run/operations, records defects and process deviations, performing troubleshooting to meet quality standards
  • Notify lead of defects
  • Determine through process decision making whether to continue running/operations or to stop the run
  • Cut samples for Q.C. and properly fill in log
  • Properly complete required paperwork/forms, such as process maps and inventory information
  • Input shop floor control data into computer systems (QAD/GEORGE)
  • Willing to accept and receive frequent direction and assistance from various levels of management
  • Prepare machine & production supplies for next shift, ensuring smooth hand-off following shift
  • Participate in WCM and safety activities
  • Communicates and coordinates with engineering on process changes and improvements.
  • Maintain necessary records as required by SOP's and work instructions.
  • Follows work orders, process sheets, procedures, and /or other instructional documentation
  • Maintain 5S housekeeping/organization within work area.
  • Willing to accept and receive frequent direction and assistance from various levels of management
  • Perform other related duties as may be reasonably assigned in the course of business.





  • Must have the following:
    • Basic mathematical abilities, to include decimals,percentages and understanding spec requirements
    • Basic reading, comprehension, communication and writing skills
    • Ability to read a tape measure within 1/16 of an inch
    • Basic computer skills
    • Ability to follow process sheets and instructions
    • Be able to climb a ladder, and be comfortable working at heights and around equipment in continuous motion, as well as working with hands at waist height for periods of time
    • Excellent attention to detail - capable of detecting visual defects in material - good vision
    • Dependable and thorough
    • Excellent attendance and work ethic
    • Great attitude/flexibility and willing to learn about processes and equipment
    • Strong adherence to policies and procedures, to include, safety, environmental, health, quality and operational
    • Ability to be open-minded to differences and treat others with respect and dignity
    • Able to work overtime
  • 1 Year Manufacturing experience, preferred
  • 1 year ISO experience, preferred
  • 1 year WCM (World Class Manufacturing/Lean) experience, preferred
  • High school diploma or equivalent, preferred
