Position description

JOB SUMMARY:

A Shipper prepares product/material for shipment to customers.  Is responsible for preparing/packaging shipments, creating labels/packing slips, and recording these shipments using ERP computer software.  Performs and operates job functions with safety, quality and efficiency in mind and in accordance with specific process sheets and operational parameters.  Must have excellent attention to detail, is responsible for the overall quality of the packaging and data entry for shipping records.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Demonstrates safety awareness and safe work practices

  • Comply with Saint-Gobain safety rules, policies and procedures
  • Follow internal environmental safety requirements for handling various raw/finished product/material in work area, as required
  • Ensure personal protective safety equipment is worn and is in good repair, as required
  • Ensure equipment and machinery are in correct and safe working order
  • Safely operate powered and non-powered equipment and tools used in job functions

Follows work orders, process sheets, procedures, and /or other instructional documentation

  • Load/unload material from trucks for the shipping process
  • Understand the quality control requirements and specifications as they pertain to the shipping process
  • Troubleshoot to resolve process problems
  • Maintain accuracy in all documentation such as ship/box/pick lists, bills of lading, material certification and invoices
  • Order and maintain all packaging supplies, including crates, skids and corrugated boxes
  • Call for trucks and all logistic confirmations
  • Verify and keep records on incoming and outgoing shipments and prepares items for shipment
  • Compare identifying information and counts, weighs or measures items of incoming and outgoing shipments to verify information against bills of lading, invoices, order or other records
  • Determine method of shipment, utilizing knowledge of shipping procedures, routes, and rates
  • Affix shipping labels on packed cartons or stencils identifying shipping information on cartons using stenciling equipment
  • Assemble wooden or cardboard containers or selects preassembled containersPerforms cycle count, as required
  • Insert product/materials into containers, using spacers, fillers, and protective padding
  • Nail covers to wooden crates and binds containers with metal/plastic tape using strapping machine
  • Stamp, stencil, or glue identifying information and shipping instructions onto crates or containers
  • Post weights and shipping charges, and affixes postage
  • Examine outgoing shipments to ensure shipments meet specifications
  • Operate forklift truck, hand truck, or overhead crane to move, convey, or hoist product/material from shipping-and-receiving work area to/from shipping container
  • Willing to accept and receive frequent direction and assistance from various levels of management
  • Properly complete required paperwork/forms either manually or electronically
  • Maintain 5S housekeeping/organization within work area
  • Perform cycle count
  • Any other related duties, goals and/or activities as assigned

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 1+ years experience working in a Shipping/Receiving environment
  • 1 + years experience working in an ISO environment
  • Certifiable to operate forklift truck
  • Intermediate problem solving skills
  • Excellent attention to detail

  • Basic computer skills
  • Basic comprehension, reading, writing and communication skills

Work Environment:

  • Production environment with regular exposure to noise and dust
  • May be exposed to cold temperatures and/or extreme heat at times

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to climb a ladder, be comfortable at heights, operate equipment that is in constant motion, use of both hands at working height and periodic use above head
  • Ability to lift/move a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly
