Position description

**NOTE: The hours for this position are Monday-Friday 11:00pm to 7:00am**


The Machine Operator is responsible for operating a 3 tier-vertical coating oven (Tower) to produce numerous types of coated fabric/ film material of various sizes.  Performs and operates job functions with safety, quality and efficiency in mind and in accordance with specific process sheets and operational parameters.  Must have excellent attention to quality in regards to the visual and weight/thickness aspects of the material/product being produced.  Responsible for the overall quality of the product being produced.     


Safe, efficient operation of 3-tier vertical coating oven (Tower)

Perform Tower start-up, shut down and turnarounds

Read and accurately follow process sheet, work instructions and/or procedures to coat rolled fabric/film material

Select rolls to be coated and carry/move to the pay-off, install over shaft, inflate shaft and splice material to the leader

Use various tools to move fabric/film material to/from Tower

Follow internal environmental safety requirements for handling of coating formulation in work area

Check materials and/or coating formulation using various calibrated and non-calibrated tools

Complete various visual inspections (weight, thickness, overall quality) on material as it is processed through Tower to monitor for defects

Recognize, categorize, document and correct various defect and processing problems

Notify lead of defects

Determine through process decision making whether to continue running/operations or to stop the run

Cut samples for Q.C

Properly complete required paperwork/forms, such as process maps and inventory information

Input shop floor control data into computer systems (QAD/GEORGE)

Willing to accept and receive frequent direction and assistance from various levels of management

Periodic Maintenance of equipment

Perform periodic autonomous maintenance on tower, to include: cleaning pans, rollers, cleaning ovens and smoke box

Maintain 5S housekeeping/organization within work area

Any other related duties, goals and/or activities as assigned


High School Diploma or equivalent

1+ years experience working in a manufacturing environment

1+ years experience as a machine operator

1+ years experience working in an ISO environment (preferred)

Accurately read a tape measure within 1/16 of an inch

Basic mathematical skills

Excellent attention to detail

Basic comprehension, reading, writing and communication skills

Basic computer skills

Dependability and thoroughness

Basic understanding of equipment operation to include, electrical, pneumatic and mechanical components operating simultaneously

Must be able to climb a ladder, be comfortable at heights, operate equipment that is in constant motion, use of both hands at working height and periodic use above head

Able to be forklift certified

Strong adherence to company policies and procedures to include safety, environmental, health, quality, and operational

Willing and able to cross-train and be flexible in the work environment

Ability to follow process sheets and work instructions plus communicate issues related to instructions to supervision

Work Environment:

Production environment with regular exposure to noise and dust

May be exposed to cold temperatures and/or extreme heat at times

Physical Requirements:

Ability to stand, stoop, twist, turn and work over the head

Ability to lift/move a minimum of 50 pounds repeatedly
