Position description

The Estimator position is responsible for understanding the breadth of our product portfolio, creating complete material takeoffs in OST/BlueBeam, calculating pricing from range of pricing configurators, preparing complete formal quotations/budgets, and developing relationships with our regional sales representatives. He or she will be responsible for managing assigned Independent Manufacturer’s Representative [IMR] territories in the USA and Architectural Sales Manager [ASM] territories in Canada. This responsibility also requires the development of intel on our competition and our market share in these assigned territories.

  • Effectively assesses and prioritizes opportunities to bid.
  • Accurately assesses all factors of project scope which may affect cost, including probable scope which may have been left out or is unspecified.
  • Cultivates intelligence on the market and project, including the competitor landscape, and utilizes to effectively price and compete for business.
  • Works closely with IMRs, ASMs, distributors, and subcontractors on estimates.
  • Create material takeoffs in On-screen Takeoff [preferred] and/or BlueBeam Revu.
  • Prepare formal bids/quotations and informal budgets/ROMs on behalf of IMRs and ASMs.
  • Manages time and abilities to deliver bids and budgets in a timely manner. 
  • Creates and maintains close, trusting relationships with customers and potential customers.
  • Develops a strong customer base along with a position of credibility and influence in the market.


  • Understand commercial construction and the bidding process.
  • Experience with estimating takeoff software (On-Screen Take-off, Planswift, AutoCAD, and/or BlueBeam)
  • Basic understanding of Excel
  • An ability to accurately read commercial construction plans.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize tasks.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • 3 – 5 years’ experience in either Commercial Estimating or Project Management preferred.
  • Proficient with On-Screen Take-off software preferred.
  • Strong proficiency with Excel preferred.
