What’s the Job?
CertainTeed Roofing is looking for two Mechanical Engineers to lead and manage all plant engineering activities for the Oxford, NC plant due to growth. The Mechanical Engineer is responsible for the maintenance and upgrade of the grounds, building, and operational equipment on site. They will also plan and direct engineering activities, provide security to and improvement of equipment and process, and maintain the company’s commitment to safety by providing a workplace free from recognized hazards which meets specific safety and health standards put forth by OSHA, and other state/federal organizations. Long term, mid-term and daily planning are a key aspect of the position responsibilities.

  • Plan, schedule, & direct all plant engineering functions and coordinates utility projects.
  • Develop capital cost, design and installation plans for new equipment. Recommend equipment replacement to improve operations & reduce costs and participate in decisions pertaining to equipment requirements for line uptime.
  • Secure required permits from governmental agencies for new equipment installations.
  • Implementation of approved capital programs within budget and schedule plans.
  • Participation on Equipment Safety Inspections and in the company SMAT program.
  • Responsible for administration of plant projects, AR and GACT and assists in the Corporate Energy Program.
  • Manages local applications for tax exemption certificates.
  • Support continuous improvement projects and teams to drive rapid results. Interact with site Senior Management to drive improvements.
  • Record, report and post targeted areas of improvement opportunities using visual management boards.

Reports to: Maintenance Manager
Travel: Minimal, about 5%

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • At least 2 years’ experience of mechanical engineering in manufacturing environment.
  • Knowledge of, or ability to understand operational excellence principles and tools, such as 5S, SMED, Kaizen, Six Sigma green belt, and TPM.
  • Strong computer skills, excellent time management, analytical, flexible in adapting to changing situations and business conditions.
  • CAD or AutoCAD skills and or working knowledge of process engineering software.
  • Ability to diagnose and prioritize opportunities in areas of savings, throughput improvement, and yield improvement.
  • Must be able to design experiments and provide statistical analysis of those trials as to effectiveness.
