Maintenance Planner Supervisor

Position description

Primary Functions:

The planner/supervisor will schedule daily, weekly and planned shutdown activities for the department. Monthly maintenance reporting is required. In addition, you will supervise daily activities of the maintenance personnel and assist with maintenance project work as assigned. This position provides key leadership in safety, quality, housekeeping, and cost reduction while promoting positive employee relations throughout the maintenance organization.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Reporting to the Maintenance Superintendent, this position is responsible for the safe and efficient utilization of manpower, materials and equipment.
  • Organize and structure planned and unplanned repairs, along with preventive maintenance routines, in a manner that will ensure efficient operation of equipment and plant operating systems.
  • Directly supervise the hourly skilled maintenance employees in the improvement and maintenance of plant equipment, buildings, machinery, and utilities.
  • Communicate expectations, measure and assess employee performance, provide coaching and development opportunities.
  • Assist in root-cause analyses as well as implement sustainable countermeasures on losses related to maintenance.
  • Help develop and maintain standard operating and maintenance procedures, and work instructions.
  • Review work orders backlog to set priorities and consolidate work for same equipment.
  • Review weekly work orders generated from the Preventative Maintenance program; prioritize and schedule accordingly.
  • Ensure maintenance documents and procedures are written, available, followed, reviewed and accurate.
  • Will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed or assigned.




  • High School diploma or GED
  • Two or four-year college degree in Engineering or Business Management is a plus
  • 8+ years of increasingly responsible positions in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • 4+ years of supervisory experience
  • Experience in planning for operations, distribution or maintenance activities
  • Experience associated with maintenance and spare parts inventory
  • Prefer exposure to ISO methodology (ISO 9001, 14001, & OHSAS 18001)
  • Skills in equipment troubleshooting and fault analysis/root cause
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in use of MS Office and windows platforms (familiarity with SAP is a plus)
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing, TPM, 5S & Six Sigma is a plus
