What’s the job?

  • The Quality Manager is an integral part of our Plant Management Team who provides leadership and technical expertise that is focused not only on helping us make better products, but also in resolving any issues our customers might have with our products. In so doing, this position is critical in helping us achieving and maintaining our preferred status in a manner consistent with our Corporate mission, vision, values and objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring that the planning, implementation, maintenance and improvement of the facilities Quality System are aligned with the plant’s business plans, regulatory requirements and World Class Manufacturing (WCM) requirements. This includes but is not limited to:
    • Defining, identifying, and applying product and process control methods such as developing control plans, identifying critical control points, developing, validating and controlling work instructions relating to the Quality System.
    • Selecting, interpreting and applying appropriate tools such as root cause analysis, plan-do-check-act, failure mode effects analysis (FMEA), and statistical process control (SPC) in appropriate situations.
    • Defining and applying basic sampling techniques (e.g. random, stratified, etc.) and when sampling is appropriate.
    • Selecting and applying advanced statistical methods (e.g. hypothesis testing, Analysis of Variance and Design of Experiments) in conjunction with the QPC Pillar, Technical Services and Central Engineering.
    • Local control and dissemination of product master formulations, product and raw material specifications through the use of corporate and internal change management systems.
    • Maintain proper specifications and training to all involved in the current quality system
    • Lab equipment and calibrations are up to date.
  • Will I be traveling? Not a lot, but there may be about 10% if we want you to go to another site in the business or travel to a customer location to inspect some wallboard.
  • Our state-of-the-art Proctor Gypsum plant uses environmentally friendly synthetic gypsum that is produced as a byproduct of the chemical scrubbers that remove sulfur from the coal-fired power plant that operates across the street from our plant.
  • We manufacture several different types of gypsum wallboard at our facility which is sold all over the United States and Canada to contractors, businesses, big box stores so that it can be used for both new construction and remodels.
  • We are located near the Ohio River just outside Moundsville, WV. This suburb of Wheeling is a growing family based community nestled in the northern panhandle of scenic West Virginia.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • You are an effective problem solver who enjoys collaborating with stakeholders to find solutions that address the root cause of any issues that arise.
  • Bachelors of Science degree in engineering, chemistry or similar discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • Five (5) years of experience managing the Quality and Process function in a high speed, continuous or multi-lane manufacturing environment with demonstrable bottom line results.
  • American Society for Quality (ASQ as a Certified Quality Engineer (CQE) or CQE Operational Excellence certification is a plus.
  • Previous experience in in gypsum or paper manufacturing is a plus.
