Position Title: Production Scheduler/Buyer

Department: Supply Chain

Location: Gaithersburg, MD

Employment Type: Regular, Full-Time, Non-exempt/hourly


The Production Scheduler/Buyer will be responsible for releasing and tracking Production Work Orders to meet customer dates (internal or external).  The position will be developing, measuring and maintaining schedules for the site and work cross functionally to ensure all orders are processed in a timely manner to meet the required completion or ship date.  The position is expected to coordinate the procurement of raw materials required to support the production schedule.

The incumbent provides feedback to supervision on changes or events that effect the production environment, maintains the production schedule to reflect change, and recommends actions relative to lead times. The objectives of this position are based on continuous improvements in on-time delivery, scheduled setup/change over reduction and cost avoidance.

  • Enter, maintain, and release work orders by reviewing MRP in QAD to support the site’s delivery and inventory objectives.
  • Place purchase orders for raw materials through reviewing MRP, maintain purchase order data in QAD, and assist the warehouse with resolving issues with purchasing receipts.  
  • Develop, maintain, and track production schedule through tracking work order orders from start to completion. Lead daily scheduling meeting with Supply Chain, Quality, and Production.  Create daily shipping and kitting schedules for the Supply Chain team in the warehouse.
  • Act as primary liaison between Customer Service and Production to answer inquiries pertaining to new and existing sales orders.
  • Monitor production schedule adherence and implement process improvements for scheduling and other Supply Chain areas.Participates in the Site Safety Program (SMAT), complies with internal and external safety standards, and completes tasks as assigned by management.

  • High school degree is required. Associate degree in Business, Operations, and Supply Chain Management is preferred. 
  • 1-3 years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must be able to perform a multiple of tasks with a high sense of urgency, accuracy and completeness.
  • Ability to present information in small groups and to management as needed is required
  • Ability to use standard software packages (i.e. Microsoft Office) and MRP outputs to analyze data and offer solutions is required.
  • Ability to cope with ambiguity and complexity is required.
  • Must be results oriented, self-motivated, flexible, dynamic, and proactive.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interact with Management and establish relationships with all levels is required.
