Position description

What’s the Job?

The Sr. Demand Planner oversees the accuracy and execution of the sales forecasting process for the Gypsum US business by analyzing market trends, historic data, commercial market data and housing starts.  You will be responsible for facilitating the S&OP Demand review meetings, providing demand planning support to all areas of the business, and managing the master data in the SAP for accurate production and materials planning. Additionally, this role is responsible for facilitating the Controlled Distribution Process in line with sales initiatives for serving our customers according to plan.  This role will also develop and facilitate the S&OP process for the Finishing Products business as well as using continuous improvement methodologies to improve forecasting and business planning.


Demand Planning (50%):

  • Understand sales trends, research demand drivers, prepare forecast data, develop statistical forecast models, and evaluate forecast results.
  • Coordinate cross-functional research activities to reconcile significant variances and refine the forecast model to reflect updated sales and marketing assumptions.
  • Develop process for understanding the commercial volume to help guide the planning and operations teams to support hitting project timelines for the customers.
  • Tracking sales vs. forecast and budget to facilitate actions for hitting business objectives.


Distribution Planning (30%):

  • Facilitate the Controlled Distribution Planning process to support the sales objectives. 
  • Monitor the “order to ship” process to ensure a high level of compliance to the controlled distribution plan.
  • Report weekly/monthly KPIs to support compliance to the process and adapt to customer needs and sales initiatives accordingly.


Finished Products Planning (20%):

  • Develop forecasting and capacity planning models for use in a monthly S&OP review
  • Analyze inventory levels and product demands to determine reorder levels and safety stocks that will ensure product availability and minimize inventory costs
  • Calculate safety stocks on a quarterly basis to ensure accurate inventory levels in line with current demand patterns
  • Coordinate raw material requirements with the purchasing team to ensure high level of production uptime
  • Maintain MRP data in ERP system to align with service and inventory objectives



What do you bring?

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Supply Chain Management, Information Technology, Marketing or Logistics. Master’s degree in technical field or MBA are preferred.
  • Five to Seven (5-7) years of applied professional experience working in operations planning, marketing, material requirements planning, and/or forecast development.
  • Knowledge of SAP, MRP, DRP and Forecasting
  • Expert knowledge of MS Excel, Tableau, and other software used for managing large quantities of data and able to build reliable and repeatable processes to support business objectives.
  • Ability to provide leadership and innovation at all levels of the organization.
  • Understanding of basic Continuous Improvement methodologies.
  • Results driven, flexible and open-minded.
  • Strong influencer with good written and oral communication skills, including online meeting management, in-person plant training and PowerPoint.
  • APICS certification preferred.
