Senior Research Engineer I - Tape Solutions

Position description

The Tape Solutions R&D group at SGR North America is searching for a Senior Research Engineer. The candidate will be expected to conduct silicone material research, from formulation to processing and industrial scale-up. The candidate should enjoy learning new technologies, problem solving, and designing innovative solutions of silicone materials in a diverse worldwide team, with a focus on sustainable solutions for fast growing electric vehicle (EV) markets.

Under the direction of the group leader, the candidate will design the silicone formulation, produce lab scale samples, conduct pilot trials at the R&D center, operate scaling-up trials in collaboration with our manufacturing sites, and analyze the experimental outcomes. The candidate should demonstrate an open and collaborative approach in all areas of responsibility and seeks out others to enhance and streamline development and decision making.

COMPETENCIES:

  • In-depth understanding of polymer materials (polymer chemistry, formulation, processing, etc.) and able to apply polymer structure-property relationships to new material/product/process development.
  • Experience in polymer characterization and material property testing. Demonstrated aptitude to quickly understand new concepts and technology and apply them. Capable of statistical data analysis and using DOE tools.
  • Experience and knowledge of silicone materials is a big plus.
  • Manage projects from inception through scale-up. Good at problem solving, and able to break down complex problems into actionable next steps. Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver outcomes on-time and within budget.
  • Confident, motivated, self-starter. Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communicator who is able to communicate technically with people from a wide range of backgrounds and utilize knowledge to advance projects and identify productive synergies. Document accomplishments in clear and coherent technical reports and presentations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in HSE.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience or MS with 3+ years of experience plus demonstrated technical judgement/accomplishments or an entry level PhD in Polymer Science/Engineering, Materials Science/ Engineering, Organic Chemistry, Plastic Engineering, Chemical Engineering.
  • Hands-on experience of polymers is required.
