Position description

The CertainTeed Platforms R&D organization is looking for a talented Business & Technology Development Project Leader who shares our enthusiasm for leading innovation within the building industry and bringing disruptive innovations to market using design thinking, agile and lean start-up principles. 

This role will work as strategic partner to marketing, sales, and R&D teams to advance innovation, technology development, and commercialization of new technologies for CertainTeed.

Responsibilities include:

Tactical Business Development:

  • Work with CertainTeed business teams, strategy team and customer experience to build and establish trusting relationships with existing and new target customers. Customer include contractors, architects, home-owners, distributors and other key early adopter customers and influencers.
  • Identify and establish relationships with the appropriate government and industry organizations to help bring technology to market
  • Serve as key point of contact with the customers during test market execution

Project Management:

  • Create detailed timelines and RACI charts to make sure project resourcing and timeline meet business expectations
  • Organize and lead project group and sub-group meetings as needed to track action items and risks to ensure timely execution of projects
  • Communicate effectively to project team and management to ensure alignment
  • Marketing project management
    • Develop a deep understanding of the incumbent solutions and customer needs: Use this understanding to define and refine target market segments, job to be done, value proposition and differentiation for the business opportunities being pursued
    • Understand relevant market codes and define market specifications
  • Work with business marketing teams to create required marketing communication materials
    • Define budget and team required to execute test market to validate key assumptions

  • Technology scale-up project management:
    • Work with technical and purchasing teams to identify appropriate pilot scale manufacturing technologies and supply chain partners for the technologies developed
    • Compare different pilot scale-up options and make recommendations for the optimal option to select
  • Manage work with technical team and manufacturing partners to scale-up the technologies developed as per technical, code and market specifications and define quality control standards
    • Work with legal teams to define the appropriate IP strategy & warranty terms and work with technical team to define the testing required to meet the warranty terms
    • Come up with cost models as a function of volume for the selected options
    • Identify challenges and hurdles in going from pilot scale-up to commercialization and recommend solutions including working with purchasing on recommendation of manufacturing partners



  • BS Degree with a minimum of 7+ years’ experience, or MS with 3+ years of experience, or entry level PhD in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and other related disciplines 
  • Three plus years’ experience  in Project Management
  • Three plus years’ experience Marketing and/or Business development in R&D environment
