This engineer is expected to lead projects to develop new products from an initial concept to commercial launch. This engineer is expected to use fundamental engineering principles, along with the latest research and methods, to reduce risk and ensure a successful product launch.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Concept development and innovation
The engineer must be familiar with the construction industry and trends to be able to create concepts for new products or useful features for existing products.
Ability to understand competitor’s products using benchmarking, patents, and/or testing.
Ability to demonstrate the feasibility of a concept using prototyping and testing.
Design and prototyping
Lead a project team to develop the product to meet all performance and cost targets, while minimizing changes and risk to the manufacturing plants.
The engineer must be familiar CAD software and/or competent to lead a designer to make decisions on the product geometry.
Utilization of prototyping techniques such as 3D printing, digital rendering for visualization, or custom mock-ups for testing and evaluation.
Ability to understand relevant industry standards to develop the product’s key performance criteria.
Utilize tools, such as testing, finite element analysis, current literature research, Design of Experiments (DOE), and DFMEAs to ensure that the product design is robust.
Document and present results to leadership to gain approval for product launch.
Lead cross-functional teams (process team and manufacturing plant engineers) to develop the process suitable for product launch.
Prepare project plans, timelines, and presentations to coordinate activities from the project team.
Identify key characteristics that are critical to the product quality and develop the appropriate methods for QC testing.
Lead a team to identify manufacturing specifications for the new product and ensure that the product can be produced through plant capability trials.
Partner with the plant to determine proper packaging and shipping requirements.
Partner with the process team to use proven lean manufacturing tools to minimize product variation and improve productivity.
Ensure that the process is safe for operators and that all environmental regulations are met.
Testing, validation and safety
Perform final product tests to gain final leadership approval for performance, aesthetics, and warranty approval.
Ensure that the product meets all industry standard requirements.
Properly document results and lessons learned for future use.
Develop and implement solutions for future quality improvements and cost reduction.
Promote a safe working environment by through policies, practices and equipment.
The incumbent will work under the parameters as defined by CertainTeed, local, state, and government policies and procedures. The incumbent’s responsibilities include the expectation to develop and implement new innovative systems, and to create continuity between departments.
