Position description

The Health and Safety Manager provides leadership and guidance for all employees to continuously improve plant safety and health metrics to world class levels by engaging and interacting with all employees at the L’Anse plant. The manager is responsible for building/expanding the safety culture of the site via collaboration with management and the employees.  This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and is a key member of the Leadership team.

  • Promote CertainTeed/Saint-Gobain’s Health & Safety policies and ensure compliance with all pertinent regulations that apply to the site operations
  • Insure compliance to OSHA and MI-OSHA standards is applied and followed for all operations
  • A commitment to implement and carry out company policies and procedures is required
  • Implement all health and safety initiatives as well as the sites health and safety management systems for 160 plus hourly and salaried employees
  • Assists in identification, analysis and control of occupational hazards requiring the application of professional knowledge, skills and abilities
  • Acts as an advisor for all health and safety initiatives revolving around plant projects, new tasks and operations
  • Facilitates inspection, to detect existing or potential accidents and health hazards, and recommends corrective or preventive measures where appropriate
  • Research and coordinate all communications with regulatory agencies pertaining to health and safety issues
  • Manage health monitoring and records of hazard exposure per OSHA/MI-OSHA requirements
  • Investigate any safety related incident to ensure prompt and effective root cause / corrective actions
  • Coordinate and conduct training for facility personnel as it pertains to H&S matters
  • Aids in coordinating contractor’s training and associated permits and audits
  • Implement Lean / WCM principles and initiatives as required, including monitoring key KPIs, developing safety action plans, and taking a leadership role in 5S initiatives
  • Aids and/or leads in managing budget and projects related to H&S items
  • Key member of the plant’s Safety Committee
  • Manage one hourly position (Safety Coordinator) to assist with the H&S programs
  • Maintain professional certifications necessary to complete some task

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

What do you bring?

      

·         University degree or the equivalent training/experience in industrial hygiene, occupational health & safety, or similar

·         3-5 years of experience managing H&S programs

·         Previous experience in mineral fiber ceilings manufacturing

·         Have the ability to provide Leadership, influence and innovation at all organizational levels

·         Requires basic proficiency with Microsoft Office

·         Experience in providing knowledge and training at all levels

·         Strong knowledge of Federal H&S Standards

·         H&S professional designations

·         Change management and conflict management skills

·         Results driven, flexible and open-minded with good written and oral communication

·         Ability work independently, be a self-starter, and team player
