What’s the job? 

This position is responsible for directing and managing all aspects of the Payroll and Workforce Management (WFM) teams in North America for more than 15,000 U.S. and Canadian employees working in multiple legal entities.  In this role, the Director will provide leadership, direction and the delivery of Payroll and WFM services for all Saint-Gobain North America businesses. 

The incumbent is responsible for the leadership and direction to the functional process area, including payroll operations, time & attendance operations, monitoring developments to ensure tax and regulatory compliance, customer service functions, reporting & analytics and other functional initiatives. 

This position shall demonstrate thought leadership regarding Payroll and WFM concepts to develop new or improved processes, methodologies, systems, tools and/or services to enhance the functional area’s (HR, Operations, Payroll, etc.) operating environments, as well as providing subject matter expertise as part of the overall execution of on time and accurate payroll and time collection activities.

What do you bring?

  • Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Arts degree is required.
  • 12 to 15+ years of experience with demonstrated career progression, managing end-to-end processes included leading the deployment of new technologies.
  • Relevant experience in business-to-business consulting with complex and collaborative teams in a virtual environment.
  • Must have leadership experience managing a team. Demonstrated ability to influence at all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrated strong communication skills.
  • Working experience with Payroll and WFM systems - PeopleSoft payroll or similar and UKG Kronos Workforce Central and/or Dimensions or similar.
  • 5 or more years of manufacturing industry experience, including experience with a unionized workforce preferred. Knowledge of U.S. and Canadian payroll requirements and familiarity with federal, state, provincial and local taxing authorities. 
  • Proven strength in developing relationships and becoming a trusted business advisor to internal clients.
  • Experience with large and complex enterprise software implementations, specifically in the labor optimization or Human Capital Management space is preferred.
  • Broad and deep knowledge and background in process improvement, business operations, program management, and change management. Process Excellence/Six Sigma experience is desired.
  • Proven experience at successfully developing & strengthening internal controls. Understand the importance of a strong internal control environment.
  • Ability to make critical decisions while operating with considerable autonomy.
  • Serve as a credible champion to enforce consistent compliance with Payroll and Time & Attendance policies and practices across multiple internal Clients in US and Canada.
  • Requires ability to work effectively with all levels of the organization, from the senior executive level to the hourly production workforce. Must work well in managing deadline situations.
  • Thinks strategically. Has strong business acumen and excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to anticipate business trends.   Demonstrates skills in multiple disciplines: manufacturing, finance, systems, HR, with excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong IT aptitude and expertise to lead financial system implementations, deliver effective desktop reporting (paperless web-enabled environment), utilize business warehouse tools and MS Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and presentations.
  • Certified Payroll Professional Designation preferred.
  • A forward thinker who can identify and capitalize on new trends as a source of further innovation. Able to envision and act on new possibilities.  Thinks strategically
