Position description

The Product Safety Department is responsible for the safety, compliance, and product stewardship requirements for the 275,000 products that Saint-Gobain manufactures and sells in North America. The manager is responsible for the Product Safety Team that provides support to the business units, manufacturing sites, sales and marketing, and customers on all issues related to product safety with the goal of minimizing liability, reducing accidents and injuries involving our products. Further, the manager serves as a resource to worldwide affiliates on safety issues and information and will recommend specific action to line management in keeping with established Saint-Gobain Abrasives Product Safety guidelines.

In addition, responsibilities include providing support to Legal and Risk Management for lawsuits and claims, assuring compliance with all applicable Federal, State and internal regulations, codes and requirements; developing all product warnings, manuals and safety related material; developing and maintaining Safety Data Sheets for all our products, providing product safety training for our employees and customers, and answering all requests for safety information. This applies to all of our products and product lines including: Coated Abrasives, Construction Products Equipment, Superabrasives, Thin Wheel, Bonded Abrasives products, Automotive Aftermarket, DIY, and resale non-abrasive products

The manager has a primary responsibility to interact and communicate with management and market managers to minimize liability related to the design, manufacture, sale and use of our products.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s Degree in Engineering or technical degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or equivalent

In lieu of MS Degree A Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or technical degree in materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering or equivalent and 8 years of experience in an abrasive manufacturing enviroment.

10-15 years experience working for an abrasives manufacturing company with experience in product design, manufacture and end use. 

 

 5 years experience in compliance and product safety requirements for OSHA, ANSI, EPA.

 

Additional Requirements

  • The incumbent should be a highly motivated, self-starter with strong organizational skills and the ability to operate in a global matrix organization structure
  • Ability to work as part of a team and also operate from broad instruction with minimal supervision or direction
  • Knowledge of Product Safety, Compliance, Regulatory and Product Stewardship
  • Experience in liability, litigation and legal aspects of Product Safety
  • Strong knowledge of our knowledge of product design and testing requirements
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Experience and knowledge in resin, vitrified, super thin wheel and coated products
  • Knowledge of product ingredients construction and end use
  • Ability to communicate effectively.  Excellent written and verbal communication skills that can be scaled between all levels of the organization
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and schedule time efficiently, operate under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Strong project coordination and multi-tasking skills are a requirement as well as the ability to handle/manage multiple projects and competing priorities
  • Strong presentation skills and ability to create compelling PowerPoint presentations
  • Experience working with management for strategic decisions
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, MSWord, PowerPoint
