Position description

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Engineering Team at our Glass Manufacturing Plant in Eggborough.


What will I be doing in the role?

Working primarily across the Coating line to provide Control & Instrumentation engineering support services through technical expertise. There will also be a degree of assistance to other parts of site, when necessary.

Some of the key duties include:

  • To maintain and develop the Control & Instrumentation capability and services on site.
  • To develop and implement process and system improvements, to increase cost effectiveness, systems reliability and performance of the operations of Saint-Gobain Glass UK.
  • To be responsible for the creation, implementation and management of approved capital projects.
  • To keep up to date with new developments and ensure that team members are aware of new technologies, new regulations and best practice.
  • To comply with statutory requirements such as health and safety, the environment, other appropriate legislation and with social responsibilities.
  • To support the manufacturing team in achieving the objectives with regard to product quality, product development and line efficiency.
  • Provide out of hours support and cover to the manufacturing lines.
  • Drive the continuous improvement programme (World Class Manufacturing) onsite using relevant tools and techniques

For the Control and Instrumentation Engineer specifically it is important that you have:

  • Ideally candidates should have at least Degree level education or equivalent in Electrical Control or Electrical Engineering. 
  • Good maintenance diagnostic skills and strong planning and organisational skills are essential. 
  • Experience of managing contractors to provide cost effective and efficient engineering support to the site,
  • The ideal candidate must have the ability to balance the need to pro-actively manage projects as well as react to the site’s immediate requirements.
  • Ability to operate within a Maintenance system utilising WCM Reliability Centred Maintenance Techniques, and Planned Preventative Maintenance routines
  • Ability to manage projects and participate in WCM Pillars to continually improve our processes
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills are also pre-requisites.
  • Engineering cross discipline knowledge is desirable to support the line engineering team during day to day running and maintenance periods.
