This role is working for British Gypsum – Part of the Saint-Gobain group and the UK’s leading manufacturer of plasterboard and plaster-based dry lining systems and products.

You will be working on a 4 week shift pattern and be required to work 2 Saturday’s within the 4 week shift pattern. The hours of work are 8am to 4pm when working Monday to Friday and 7am-3pm on Saturday’s.

We need someone who understands mechanical systems, shares their knowledge and findings with their colleagues, finds "root causes" quickly and through change management install a "100 year" repair that delivers sustained reliability in the plant.

We are looking for someone to join us in the servicing, maintaining and repairing of our pallet conveying system and automated pallet storage and retrieval cranes in our warehouse. You will have a proactive approach to engineering demonstrated by excellent root cause analysis of failures and first time repairs, along with having a clear understanding why preventive maintenance is critical to establishing and sustaining plant reliability.

As a Plant Mechanical Engineer, you will:

  • Have previous experience with Warehouse management and warehouse control systems (WMS/WCS)

  • Have experience of ASRS (Automated Storage and Retrieval Systems), including pallet picking cranes, telescopic forks and pallet elevators

  • Previously used CMMS (Computerised Maintenance Management Systems) to control and document engineering tasks

  • Be apprentice craft trained with a minimum BTEC ONC mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience in this role

  • Use the appropriate World Class Manufacturing (WCM) tools to identify, understand, resolve and sustain plant equipment demonstrating knowledge of Quick Kaizen, Route Cause Analysis, 5S and lean manufacturing techniques

  • Have Knowledge and understanding of technical engineering drawings

  • Have experience in working at height; preferably with rack access and rack rescue experience

  • Proven problem solving techniques

  • Experience in risk assessment tools including ‘On the Job’ Risk assessments and ‘Task Based’ Risk Assessments

  • Assist in writing and reviewing SMP (Standard Maintenance procedure), SOP (Standard Operating Procedure) and OPL (One Point Lessons)

  • Proactively investigate failures or observations within the plant and generate ideas for focused improvements.

  • Engage with the Engineering and Production teams to ensure that planned works are followed from take-over to hand back on time. During the works clear communication and adoption of safe practices with colleagues must be adhered to.

  • Work collaboratively with the Day Craft and Shift Craft teams to share their knowledge on project activities and failure rectification to help build sustainable programmes.

  • Communicate and agree if a failure/observation during routine maintenance can be repaired immediately or at a scheduled later date.

  • Lend support to Production colleagues as plant activities demand.
