Mine Manager – British Gypsum – Saint Gobain

Is this role right for me?

This a very rare and extremely rewarding opportunity to join British Gypsum, across the UK we have 5 underground room and pillar mines one is in Cumbia, one in East Sussex and 3 in the Midlands. There is a range of seam conditions between our mines which results in the use either continuous miners, roadheader or drill and blast mining methods.

The overall purpose of the role is to be the statutory competent person responsible for the overall management of the Mine in accordance with applicable legislation and for delivering the Mines Performance KPIs & SPIs utilising extensive experience and knowledge in mining engineering and operations management in order to ensure the safety, environmental and quality standards are achieved whilst satisfying demand.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Role Accountabilities

  • Actively promotes safe working practices as a core value that places safety at the heart of all decisions
  • Develops and Deploys local policies and procedures in compliance with BG mining standards.
  • Leads by example and encourages safety activity throughout the team
  • Ensures all statutory obligations are fulfilled with regard to the entire operation
  • Leads the site safety committee
  • Reporting and investigation of H&S incidents
  • Demonstrates high level of technical competence
  • Can lead multi-disciplined and cross-functional teams
  • Can develop, empower and motivate a team to ever higher performance
  • Fosters Trust within team and with stakeholders
  • Collaborates effectively internally & externally
  • The ability to Innovate 

Required Experience and Qualifications

  • Degree or Diploma qualification (or equivalent) in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
  • At least 5 years’ experience in managing underground mining operations.
  • Record of success in a unionised production management role.
  • Experience of identifying, planning and leading continuous improvement projects
  • Mining Engineering and Safety management skills & knowledge sufficient to ensure the operation is wholly compliant with all applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Management skills to inspire and enable the team to be developed to consistently improve performance
  • Good stakeholder management skills to ensure all interactions are professional and satisfactorily concluded
  • Good root cause analysis skills to ensure all identified shortcomings are investigated and effective countermeasures implemented
