Job Purpose

To lead the Operations team and support a culture conducive with strong health and safety performance. To drive and deliver operational excellence within the operation through a process of continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications, and Experience Required


  • Strong and demonstrable experience in area of Operational management
  • Experience of managing a production, logistics or multiple functions
  • A level qualification or equivalent
  • Diploma level management qualification
  • IOSH qualification or equivalent Health and Safety experience
  • Proven experience of managing safety in an operational environment
  • Experience in 5S or equivalent e.g. clean sweep
  • Experience of builders merchanting and associated products
  • Proven experience of managing SOPs
  • Strong communication, presentation and influencing skills
  • Ability to identify and implement performance goals, priorities, recommend measures
  • Experience of developing and delivering sustainable changes across a department/function
  • Strong knowledge of customer/financial performance, risk management and understanding of financial statements
  • Highly IT literate in systems relevant to role i.e. MS Office (Intermediate Excel)
  • Resilient and able to constructively challenge and influence
  • Proven and demonstrable ability to understand customer and business requirements
  • Able to work under pressure and manage multiple simultaneous priorities
  • People management experience with demonstrable ability to lead, coach and motivate a team e.g. ability to manage multiple teams and shift patterns
  • Strong resource management skills
  • Demonstrable delivery of commercial successes and good business acumen
  • Able to support the need for and lead change within area of responsibility
  • Self-motivated and results driven with the ability to manage a team and relevant stakeholders to deliver results
  • Working Knowledge of quality management procedures/processes
  • Budget Management experience
  • Knowledge and experience of production and logistics scheduling methods and work processes
  • Able to demonstrate excellent relationship management and networking skills
  • Driving Licence (travel and overnight stays are required)


  • Educated to degree level
  • Strong numerical and analytical skills with ability assimilate information
  • Experience in leading Kaizen teams
  • Continuous improvement management experience
  • Six Sigma green belt

Key Results Areas

You will be required to:

  • Leading Health and Safety standards within the operational environment
  • Maintaining Quality Management standards
  • Managing the performance and employee relations of the Operational team
  • Maintaining business controls procedures
  • Inspire, lead, motivate and develop the team to achieve operational excellence ensuring a consistent approach
  • Ensure the correct staffing numbers are maintained to achieve productivity levels and recruit where appropriate
  • Ensure the operational team are trained and developed
  • Communicate changes in legislation, market developments, products and company news
  • Manage interfaces within the business and other SGBD operational teams to ensure totally integrated supply to the customer
  • Encourage participation in problem solving and role development
  • Ensure operational KPIs are achieved in all areas
  • Promote and foster a culture of continuous improvement and empowerment
