External Account Manager - International Decorative Surfaces (IDS) - Swindon, Wiltshire

International Decorative Surfaces (IDS) is the UK's largest distributor of surfacing materials specialising in flooring, worktops, laminates, panel products and solid surfacing. We have an excellent opportunity for a passionate and motivated External Account Manager to join our IDS Swindon team.

Your role will be to represent and promote all of our products to an already established ledger whilst either maintaining or growing their sales. You will also be required to seek out new business opportunities in order to help achieve budgeted sales within your territory (BA, BS, TA, BH and DT postcodes). 

As an External Account Manager with IDS, you will:

  • Identify key accounts and build strong relationships with those customers, providing an excellent standard of ongoing customer care.
  • Develop sales with existing retail customers in the South West and with new customers to win market share.
  • Plan territory visits to ensure that customers are contacted at the required frequency.
  • Be proactive and assertive in seeking new business and re-activating dormant accounts.
  • Negotiate sales deals that will achieve budgeted margins and which conform to the Company’s sales policies.
  • Report activity levels within the territory to the Sales Manager on a daily basis.
  • Gather competitor and customer information and report weekly on general market activity to the Sales Manager.
  • Use the CRM reporting system “Sales-i“ to help manage, record visits, develop and achieve sales budgets whilst updating and maintaining relevant stand and customer information.

  • A full UK Driving licence.
  • Experience in selling with the ability to make an immediate impact.
  • The ability to engage with stakeholders at any level (MD to shop floor).
  • A hardworking and hungry persona – you need to want to sell!
  • Resilience and the ability to overcome setbacks and continue with enthusiasm.
  • Strong analytical and IT skills.
