This role is working with Saint-Gobain Insulation UK, we have a history of continual product innovation, technical progression and an unrivalled product and service package spanning more than 90 years, we remain the insulation specialist of choice.

This opportunity gives you a lot of variety and requires travel to our different production facilities to support with product development and trials, whilst also having the option to work remotely.

As a Research & Development Scientist, you will be a valued member of the R&D team, supporting the production of quality products in a safe and efficient manner. This will include; 

  • Being responsible for the project managed development of new products by developing new chemicals, formulations, and processes; both in the laboratory and on the production plants.
  • Evaluating competitors’ products physical and declared properties for the purpose of benchmarking new products.
  • To be responsible for leading manufacturing trials and subsequent testing of product and raw materials, and provide feedback to the team and suppliers.
  • Keeping accurate records of all evaluations, investigations, and trials and issue reports to the Development Manager on a monthly basis.
  • Working with a strict adherence to EHS policy and procedure.
  • Building strong relationships in the team as you coordinate workloads, present to members of staff at all levels, and share knowledge.

What kind of person are we looking for?

  • Educated to degree level in a Chemistry or a Material Science based subject – ideally Organic Chemistry or Polymer Chemistry, with an understanding of Thermal Dynamics an added bonus.
  • Able to work off their own innovative, taking a proactive approach they analyse and interpret samples – making recommendation for updates to policy and procedure.
  • Comfortable being involved with all levels of operation, willing to help members of the wider team where needed, and takes ownership of the impact their role has in the operation.
  • Well organised and able to be agile in an ever-changing environment.
