Who are we ?

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a UNIX Administrator to join us at Saint Gobain is Huddersfield. This role would suit someone who wants to learn new skills and technologies.

The expectations are that you will be looking after 100+ UNIX servers (predominantly AIX 7 on Power and some RHEL 7) and a mixture of trading and test systems in a BAU capacity as well as contributing to projects when required. This will also include normal administration activities as well as capacity planning. There is also the opportunity to manage SANs and IBM/NetApp storage devices and play a part in the expanding role of RHEL within the organisation.

Training will be provided where required to ensure we provide the very best support for our brands within the Saint Gobain group in the UK and Ireland.

What are we looking for?

  • Experience in supporting IBM AIX 7 and IBM Power server technologies in a business infrastructure environment is a must as is systems management using IBM virtualisation technologies (VIO) and deployment tools such as NIM.
  • Experience of supporting RHEL server technologies is desirable as is any experience of SANs and disk storage technologies.
  • Practice of administering and supporting multiple systems in a complex and distributed environment, including the day to day management of resources and issues including experience of using monitoring tools.
  • Any working knowledge and experience of relevant scripting or automation practices in an enterprise environment would be advantageous.
  • Experience of performance management, capacity planning and reporting techniques against business critical systems.
  • Demonstrates positive behaviours, shows ownership and responsibility of tasks to completion with good communication skills and a willingness to learn.

Please note that flexibility is required surrounding working hours’ overtime & weekend work is required where necessary to satisfy support needs surrounding system upgrades but we will always endeavour to strike the right work/life balance.
