Finance Controller – SG Contracts Division - Based in Coventry, Warwickshire

(Temporary Cover from March 2020 – July 2020)

As a Finance Controller, your role will be to ensure that the Division has effective systems, finance and accounting infrastructure and commercial planning and controls to optimise efficiency, profitability, balance sheet control and business performance. You will develop the strategic plans for the businesses in conjunction with the Managing Director and Finance Director ensuring robust IT systems exists within the business.

As a Finance Controller, your duties will include:

  • Providing day to day financial support and advice to the Managing Director, senior management and branch managers
  • Managing the finance teams, including credit control and purchase ledger teams and to ensure credit risk is managed effectively
  • Managing the preparation of the budgets and forecasts for executive review, to monitor, analyse and report on actual performance against budget
  • Identifying opportunities within the company to improve performance
  • Managing the IT team to ensure the maintenance and development of IT systems and business procedures
  • Developing and ensure the effective implementation of new initiatives focussing on financial controls
  • Developing and manage operational reporting and analysis as appropriate
  • Ensuring that internal audits of branches are completed and any subsequent recommendations are implemented
  • Undertaking business projects as required
  • Developing operational reporting and analysis, appropriate to the above
  • Ensuring effective balance sheet controls and compliance with SGBD UK monthly finance checklist
  • Preparing business plans and post investment reviews; to undertake business projects as required

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience Required

  • Educated to degree level or similar.
  • Qualified accountant with good experience of working in a commercial environment.
  • Experience of working at a senior level with a high degree of autonomy.
  • Highly PC literate with experience of IT systems development and implementation.
  • Ability to prioritise workload and strong time management
  • People management experience.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to establish effective working relationships at all levels.
  • Strong analytical skills. Able to interpret complex financial and statistical data.
  • Able to present financial information to non-finance colleagues.
  • Demonstrable track record of implementing continuous improvement processes.
  • Able to work as an effective member of a team
  • Ability to man-manage, monitor, appraise, coach, develop and motivate employees
