Position description

As a member of the Technology and Industrial Performance Department/ Saint-Gobain Glass Industry Direction Technique Internationale, you will be a central actor of the specific “eMarking Project”, with significant operational impact throughout Glass Industry production sites and their customers (Glass Solutions, Sekurit and external customers). The eMarking Project triggers significant cost savings for all parties engaged.

Thanks to the variety of the parties involved, this position is highly visible in the Saint-Gobain Glass operational organization. Your responsibilities are as follows:

  1. Overview and secure the eMarking operation on our upstream production lines and downstream cutting lines. Manage the hot-line service and coordinate trouble shooting which involves the central eMarking IT team, local teams on multiple site and the several equipment suppliers. Promote continuous improvement in our hot-line services, identifying ways for faster trouble detection and resolution.
  2. As a consequence of this operational proximity, identify the key hurdles that generate dysfunctions in the glass ID marking and reading process, and do propose technical solutions which will definitely eliminate operation downturns. Another aspect is for you to keep being updated on glass plate ID marking and reading technology evolution, enabling more robust operation at lower cost. This responsibility requires a strong expertise in optics, vision software and some insight in electronics and automatisms. You are referent expert in optics and vision, able to challenge industrial solutions in place.
  3. Responsible for securing optimal savings at all production and processor sites; related KPIs and targets will be agreed on at beginning of the year. Be responsible for seamless and robust eMarking equipment integration on new lines. Overall you are a major contributor to the growth of eMarking related cost savings throughout 60+ upstream and downstream lines. This responsibility requires an appetite for working fast and efficiently within an operational environment, with feeling of urgency to save on costs everyday.


For that position we are looking for an individual with the following skills and experience:

  • Generalist engineer or equivalent with strong interest in instrumentation including optics / vision software / electronics and know how in automatism
  • Advanced analytical, conceptual and technical problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, be sensitive to local environment specificities and difficulties; adapt your contribution level to local needs and competencies. Be result oriented.
  • Mobility requested: 30% in France & Europe, possibly outside Europe.
  • Position is preferably based at Aubervilliers (France, Seine Saint-Denis) so as to favor proximity with the eMarking Central Team.
  • All activities are conducted in English, French which are both mandatory. Knowledge of German and/or Spanish is valuable.
