Maintenance and EHS Manager

Why do we need you ?

We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance & EHS Manager to ensure the efficient running of our plant facilities while upholding world-class Saint-Gobain EHS standards. The role will lead maintenance planning, execution, and continuous EHS compliance across all operations within the factory working closely with production and R&D teams to ensure our products meet both industry standards and customer expectations.

The role will be based full-time at our factory in Tulefa.

Key responsibilities:

Maintenance and Facilities Management

  • Ensure efficient maintenance operations for all Tulefa factory facilities, utilities, and equipment – mechanical, electrical, and civil.
  • Prepare and implement daily, weekly, and monthly inspection schedules; record all data accurately.
  • Perform domestic maintenance tasks.
  • Maintain machine manuals, certification documents, drawings, and the full factory archive in an organized manner.
  • Develop maintenance procedures, manuals, and preventive maintenance plans; present monthly and annual maintenance plans to the Plant Manager.
  • Monitor contractor activities and ensure compliance with approved work methodologies and Saint-Gobain contractor control standards.
  • Ensure proper stock management of spare parts, raw materials, finished goods, and maintenance supplies.
  • Prepare cost analyses, manage CAPEX and routine spare part applications, and maintain the asset register.
  • Assist with forklift and production operations when required during manpower shortages.

 

Engineering Projects

  • Support engineering project execution across mechanical and electrical disciplines.
  • Order spare parts and materials using technical documentation.
  • Manage project-related budgeting and cost control.
  • Work on evaluating alternative raw materials to improve quality and reduce costs.

 

Environment, Health and Safety (EHS)

  • Ensure full implementation of Saint-Gobain EHS standards across the factory.
  • Perform risk assessments for all maintenance tasks; review them every six months with the EHS Officer.
  • Enforce safe work procedures, including work permits and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) processes.
  • Lead daily EHS inspections in production areas; check machinery, equipment, and tools according to recommended standards.
  • Ensure PPE compliance based on task-specific risk assessments.
  • Conduct safety training, induction assessments, and issue safety induction cards for employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Translate EHS documents into Amharic when required.
  • Monitor noise and dust levels with external auditors and ensure corrective actions.
  • Maintain all EHS checklists and ensure documentation is properly filed for audit purposes.
  • Prepare and submit daily, weekly, and monthly EHS (GAIA) reports to the Plant Manager and South Africa.

 

Quality, Compliance and Continuous Improvement

  • Implement 5S methodology and maintain clean, orderly workspaces.
  • Ensure machine cleaning activities are conducted correctly by production teams.
  • Verify pallet verticality daily with production representatives and oversee corrective action.
  • Maintain accurate stock records, expiry dates for all materials, and report aging stock.
  • Conduct monthly stock counts and report results.
  • Manage product loading, delivery, and raw material offloading operations.
  • Ensure all SOPs are in place, understood, and followed by all employees.

Is this job for you ?

Minimum requirements:

 

  • BSc/BEng Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • PMP certification is an advantage
  • 5 years’ relevant working experience in a maintenance/production supervisor role
  • Experience in the building/construction sector will be advantageous
  • 1–2 years’ project management experience
  • 1–3 years’ plant maintenance experience
  • Strong technical understanding of mechanical/electrical systems and AutoCAD drawings
  • Good computer literacy: Excel, SAP B1, MS Projects, PowerPoint
  • Strong supervisory and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent planning, multitasking, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Sound safety knowledge and proven experience in applying safety procedures in a manufacturing environment
  • Assertive, reliable team player with strong communication skills
