Maintenance Manager

Position description

Consistent with the corporate objectives and a reliability mindset, the Maintenance is directly reporting to the Plant Manager. He will be responsible for leading and directing the maintenance department in all activities related to planning and scheduling, budgeting, and repairs.  Also required is reliability improvements by implementing proven Professional Maintenance and Reliability Centered improvement processes.  He/she ensures both reactive and proactive maintenance support to all plant customers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Continuous Improvement: To be the champion of all PM and reliability systems by utilizing the Professional Maintenance World Class Manufacturing techniques in driving equipment reliabilities to the highest possible levels.
  • Systems Development: Oversight of the maintenance systems and developing maintenance strategies.  Oversee and maintain the SAP maintenance module.
  • Change Agent: Provides leadership to the cultural and technical growth of his/her direct reports. Motivates, coaches and develops a diverse, high performing and engaged team to meet established goals and build organizational capability and mindset to function within a Reliability Centered organization.
  • Technical problem solving: Achieves technical problem solving through the use of Root Cause Analysis tools to eliminate and sustain equipment reliability and capability.
  • People Development: With input from the Plant Manager regularly evaluates skillsets, provide formalized feedback on performance, source and provide training opportunities for all direct reports.
  • Customers and contacts: Collaborates with all plant and corporate functions in the coordination and scheduling of plant repairs, equipment modifications or installations; purchasing and accounting personnel on requisitions and capital request data; and corporate engineering on special projects.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY

Assists and gives input in the preparation of the departmental budgets and helps monitor cost control.  Responsible for keeping material and labor costs within the department’s budget.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervised 10-14 electricians, millwright, planner, purchasing and parts department.

Supervisory responsibility involving staffing, conducting performance appraisals, training, ensure consistent management of subordinate personnel, terminations, disciplinary actions, etc. Manages salaried and hourly employees.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Weekend and holiday work required at times. Occasional long hours. Environment may include exposure to noise, heat & dirt/dusty conditions. Some travel may be required. Must be willing to work on-call on a rotating basis.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Manufacturing plant environment may require some climbing, lifting, traversing uneven terrain. Travel may require using airline

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical technologist or equivalent experience as a Maintenance Manager.
  • Expected to have 5+ years professional experience in progressive roles and knowledge of plant maintenance disciplines.
  • Must be well versed in mechanical systems, hydraulics, compressed air systems, and electrical and automation.
  • Must have 5+ years professional experience supervising trades (including electricians) in a unionized manufacturing environment.
  • Must have 5+ years in planning and scheduling both minor and major plant outages.
  • Experience in MS Office required including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience in SAP maintenance module
  • Must demonstrate successful leadership and change agent skills in a unionized environment.
  • Must have demonstrated success working in a company with continuous improvement culture/mindset.
  • Requires proven leadership skills, strong people development, coaching and collaborative decision making capability.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills through all levels of the organization.
  • Must have excellent trouble shooting skills and demonstrable ability in RCA techniques.
  • Must show adaptability, customer and supplier focus.
