Position description

Reporting to the SPG Plant Quality & Process control Manager, the EHS\Quality Coordinator is a hands-on position providing leadership for the Health, Safety and Environment programs and Quality management systems in the Plant. Working within the framework of World Class Manufacturing facility, this position is responsible for creating, supporting and sustaining an autonomous EHS\Quality culture, through mentoring and training that is consistent with the Company’s Values and Attitudes. This position is also responsible for developing and maintaining ISO systems, EHS standard operating procedures, risk identification, risk reduction awareness and methods.


  • Conduct product, compliance and operational risk assessments and develop risk management strategies and control plans for both Quality and EHS.
  • Maintain records to comply with third party product certification program and ISO 9001 Quality Management System requirements. 
  • Conduct internal and support external regulatory audits.
  • Provide interactive, hands-on leadership, training, coaching and mentoring to all hourly and salaried employees
  •   Coordinate all required safety training for but not limited to confined space, lock out/tag out, first aid, fall protection and conduct new hire and contractor safety orientation
  • Conduct and ensure timely completion of workplace EHS investigations and accident/injury reporting using WCM tool
  •  Coach/lead Risk Assessments; lock out/tag out, working at heights, or other safe work plan processes
  • Create and continually improve standard work and specification documents.
  • Oversee processes to ensure compliance to established product requirements.
  • Track and report conformance metrics and act when unfavorable trends arise.
  • Manage product measurement systems and oversee the calibration program.
  • Advance product verification capabilities by evaluating, recommending and implementing new technologies.
  • Review and approval of change notifications, deviations and corrective actions.
  • Initiator of Root Cause Analysis and Corrective Action processes for compliance issues.
  • Oversees raw material lot approval process, supplier performance evaluations and supplier corrective action process.  

Physical Requirements 
The physical demands of the work may require the ability to move heavy objects safely, not to exceed, with the assistance of a dolly, forklift, or team member.  There are also frequent and prolonged periods of standing/walking and pushing/pulling or moving/lifting supplies.  The incumbent may experience frequent/occasional reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling and crouching.  It may also require normal range of hearing and vision to operate machinery.


Working Conditions 

This position is located within a manufacturing plant and would involve strong interaction with the manufacturing shop floor (for material trials, product development, etc.) and will require the incumbent to have exposure to noise, dust, heat, cold, and hazards associated with manufacturing equipment and tools. The incumbent is required to comply with all safety requirements, including use of the personal protection equipment required for this position. 
This position involves travel at approximately 5%.

•           University Degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Relations or any other relevant field of study OR Technical College Degree in Environment, Hygiene and Work Safety combined with significant related experience

•           Minimum 5 to 7 years of experience as an EHS or Quality Coordinator

•           Excellent knowledge and previous experience with Provincial and Federal EHS standards, regulations and legislation

•           Experience managing WCB reporting and return to work process

•           Demonstrated ability to influence others without direct authority

•           Ability to conduct training programs and facilitate group presentations

•           Experience with writing policies and procedures for health and safety

•           Familiarity with conducting data analysis and reporting statistics

•           Advanced understanding of the audit process including types of audits, planning, preparation, execution, reporting results and follow-up

•           Must be a self-starter and team player

•           Knowledge of Scientific Problem Solving Methods (preferably WCM FI toolset)

•           ISO frameworks

•           EHS professional designations preferred

•           ISO 9001 Auditor Certification preferred

•           ASQ Certification preferred.
