Position description

For our Tape Solutions business unit in Europe, we are currently looking for a Regional Applications and Technical Manager (Localisation: Chaineux (Liege/ Belgium)

 

Context:

The Regional Applications and Technical Manager will lead a technically knowledgeable and customer centric team supporting commercial activities for the Tape Solutions Business Unit in Europe. 

The position has direct management responsibility for the European Applications Engineering and the Technical Service personnel with different scope of activities/ responsibilities: training, certification, testing, competitive analysis/ manufacturing cost analysis, product customization efforts from prototype design to product commercialization, while maintaining effective communications with customers and support teams (Quality/Production/Logistics). 

 

Your main tasks:

1. Product Development

  • Gather and apply appropriate technical resources to customer programs which support global business growth objectives and strategies
  • Ensure the application engineering team fully understands the customer’s problem statement;
  • Deliver distinctive, customized products, at an appropriate cost to meet demanding applications
  • Validate internal manufacturing capabilities versus customer expectations, and document acceptance of all customer specifications
  • Ensure team members effectively communicate to customers throughout projects to achieve high customer satisfaction

2. Technology Leadership

  • Seek out, or develop innovative materials and processes that provide solutions to difficult material applications
  • Continuously improve understanding of customer application requirements 
  • Respond quickly and professionally to all manner of customer technical inquiries
  • Provide customer and sales force training on product features, benefits, and applications
  • Work in collaboration with customers to resolve product performance issues, and to select the best material solutions for each specific application
  • Facilitate applications knowledge sharing between customer facing departments, including Customer Service, Sales, Quality Assurance and Product Management

 

3. Personnel development

  • Provide training, experiential opportunities and regular feedback for application engineers and other team members which allow them the best opportunities for personal and professional growth
  • Set team and individual objectives, develop metrics in harmony with strategic objectives and ensure team members have the tools needed for successful implementation of objectives

4. Strategic Planning & Implementation

  • Develop strategic plans which allow the implementation of a highly effective and efficient technical services organization designed to support global business objectives. 
  • Position the team to effectively meet new opportunities and future market challenges

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor/ Master degree in an Engineering (chemical)/ Technical discipline
  • Between 5 and 10 years of working experience in a similar function supporting commercial activities through engineering and technical expertise/ input in the industry.  Preferably in an international environment/ chemistry sector (raw materials transformation)
  • Proven experience in people management/ leadership
  • Excellent communication and listening skills (internally and externally)
  • Curious, proactive, problem solving, results-oriented (“best-fit solutions”).  Ability to continuously improve the business unit’s performance while exceeding customer expectations
  • Ability to acquire rapidly the understanding of both our product range (> 50 Product families) and our extensive process capabilities (engineering concepts are highly technical and require the knowledge and confidence to effectively communicate to others)
  • Ability to develop people, technology and tools that continuously improve the business unit’s performance while exceeding customer expectations. 
  • Localization: Chaineux (Verviers/ Liege) with travel requirements: +/- 35%: Regional EU Manufacturing Sites (Corby, Milan, Waakirchen), Customers, Internal Meetings, Trade Conferences
  • Languages requirements: FR-EN mandatory (bilingual).  German and/ or Italian is an asset
